As part of its year-long 100th anniversary celebration, WOMT Radio in Manitowoc is collaborating with local collector Steve Kanter to create a curated display of vintage radios. The traveling collection has now arrived at its third host venue: The Manitowoc County Historical Society.

Guests at April’s Hungry for History event experienced an exclusive first look at the collection, which then moved to the Manitowoc Public Library for a six-week exhibition as the first stop on its 2026 tour. The collection will conclude its journey later this year at the Rahr West Art Museum as part of their Christmas at the Mansion series.

As WOMT planned its centennial celebration—honoring both its legacy of local broadcasting and the broader history of radio—a partnership with radio enthusiast Kanter was a natural fit. Kanter is a Manitowoc resident owning more than 80 radios that he often restores himself. Dating back to the 1920s, Kanter’s collection represents a time when radio served as the focal point of daily life.

“Local radio is so important to the community,” Kanter said. “My radios come from a time when it was the center of the household.”

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to showcase my collection,” Kanter said. “I’m proud to be part of WOMT’s celebration.”

Seehafer Broadcasting Vice President Terry Stevenson said, “All of us at WOMT Radio are honored to be part of this historically significant anniversary. Steve’s collection offers a powerful visual representation of radio’s presence over the last 100 years, and we’re grateful for his enthusiasm in helping us celebrate.”

The WOMT 100 vintage radio exhibition will be on display at the Manitowoc County Historical Society throughout the summer 2026 season. Community members are invited to visit and experience this unique piece of broadcasting history. The Manitowoc County Historical Society is located at 924 Pinecrest Road and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
