I’m thrilled to report that your WBA is once again partnering with the Wisconsin Army National Guard (WIARNG) to help the critical recruitment mission of this important state institution.
As most of you know, we have a long history of working with the WIARNG through our Public Education Program (NCSA/PEP). Member stations stepped up in recent years to help the WIARNG respond to and reverse a decline in recruitment.
Your WBA is tremendously proud of this partnership and the public service role stations play in the program.
Investment in the future
You may have already seen our exciting announcement regarding the establishment of the Young Broadcasters Development Fund. We are most grateful to founding grantors Terry and Sandy Shockley who are the driving force behind this initiative. Your WBA has long prioritized recruitment of future broadcasters into the industry. This fund, through our WBA Foundation, provides financial backing to put more ideas into action.
Watch for news from your WBA regarding the specifics, but something we’re confident you’ll notice is more young and aspiring broadcasters taking part in WBA programs and events.
Special issue of the newsletter
Every year, our September/October newsletter is one in which we highlight WBA programs, some of which you might be less familiar with. Be sure to check out the pages of this issue to make sure you’re making the most of your WBA membership.
We also use this issue to identify and thank the stations that have participated in NCSA/PEP in the last year. We truly appreciate your participation. And if you’d like to see your station listed next year, please reach out. We’d love to get you involved in supporting your WBA.
Finally, I’d like to thank Seehafer Broadcasting team for inviting me to one of the many 100-year anniversary celebrations for WOMT in Manitowoc. The community excitement for this radio station and anniversary is a testament to the power of local, community-service broadcasting.
Like your WBA, celebrating our 75th, many other radio and TV stations are recognizing milestone anniversaries this year. Congratulations to all of you and here’s to many more years of inspiring community service!
