A ‘Coffee with the Morning Crew’ event, hosted by WISN-TV in Milwaukee, collected 655 children’s books to help kids throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

The event took place on July 18 at the Northwestern Mutual Community Park in Henry Maier Festival Park. The event was made possible through a partnership between WISN 12 and numerous organizations including Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., Next Door, Saz’s Hospitality Group, and Kroger Delivery.

“The energy was amazing, and the generosity was inspiring – so many people coming out and helping local kids!” said Shawn Oswald, president and general manager of WISN 12. “We’re really proud to be part of this community.”

At the community gathering, attendees visited Next Door’s mobile library and donated new or gently used children’s books through the organization’s ‘Books for Kids’ program. Along with accepting book donations, the event offered community-building, free coffee and snacks, and giveaway prizes.

Attendees were also able to spend time with the WISN 12 News This Morning team, including Gerron Jordan, Mallory Anderson, Zoie Henry, Lindsey Slater, and Matt Salemme.

In addition to hosting the gathering, WISN-TV contributed $1,000 worth of books to benefit the book drive.

“Thank you to all of our partners who helped make this such a success,” Oswald said. “Working together with our community, we truly made a positive impact on the lives of children.”
