The WISN-TV ‘Class Act School Supply Drive’ collected $55,006 from generous viewers in the Milwaukee area to provide essential school supplies for area students.
Communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin raised money for kids in both Milwaukee and Waukesha counties who need additional support ahead of the next school year. The 11th annual campaign, hosted by WISN 12 and The Salvation Army, gathered donations online, via text, and through a phone bank.
“Our viewers never disappointment us with their overwhelming generosity” said Jan Wade, president and general manager of WISN 12. “They totally understand the value of a good education and to that end, the importance of sending children to school with the tools they need to learn. The impact of these donations for our students are significant.”
The ‘Class Act School Supply Drive’ helps ensure that disadvantaged students will have the classrooms essentials they need for the school year. This year’s initiative amounts to 2,200 backpacks full of items such as markers, highlighters, glue sticks, pencils, pens, and erasers.
The ‘Class Act School Supply Drive’ started in 2013. To date, the partnership between WISN 12 and The Salvation Army has collected more than $619,000 and has amounted to roughly 35,435 backpacks for students in need across the area.
