Reporter, anchor remembered for 45 years in broadcasting

A Wisconsin native with a 45-year broadcasting career has died. Thomas Kurt “Tom” Petersen, 83, died on Saturday.

According to his obituary, Petersen left his mark in the broadcasting business working as a reporter and news anchor at TV and radio stations in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan and Illinois. He retired from his last position as News Director at WGN Radio in Chicago in 2006. He was included in the WGN Walk of Fame after his retirement.

Petersen said he was most proud of the fact that during a 45 year career, he was never fired from a single station.

Petersen was born in Ashland, graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, and attended several colleges in Wisconsin.

A memorial gathering might be scheduled at a later date. There will be no funeral service.
