WISN-TV in Milwaukee hosted a blood drive and phone bank on Feb. 11 to support the Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin and its local site Versiti on King, a new blood donation and community resource center.
The charitable effort was part of the station’s ‘WISN 12 Day of Giving’ initiative, which assists local non-profit organizations.
“Reports tell us that every two seconds, someone in our community needs blood,” said Shawn Oswald, president and general manager of WISN 12. “By taking a little bit of time out of your day to donate blood or provide financial assistance, you’re literally saving lives.”
More than $13,000 was raised and 220 blood donors participated in the drive, donating blood, platelets, and plasma. These donations will help more than 750 people in the local community.
