Weekly Radio Addresses touch on health insurance, voting

Weekly Addresses

This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol are about health insurance and a statewide referendum. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:

— In this week’s , Gov. Tony Evers encourages Wisconsinites to enroll in health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

The Dem governor reminds citizens the enrollment period will begin on Healthcare.gov today and continue through Jan. 15.

He touts the record-setting 250,000 Wisconsinites who signed up during the last open enrollment period and his support for the ACA.

“I kept my promise and withdrew Wisconsin from a Republican lawsuit that would’ve gutted the ACA and threatened care for thousands of Wisconsinites with preexisting conditions,” he says.

Evers says he will ensure Wisconsinites continue to have access to health care coverage.

“We’re working to make sure health care, including reproductive health care, mental and behavioral health care, and prescriptions, are affordable and accessible to all.”

— In this week’s , Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu encourages Wisconsinites to support a referendum to ban noncitizen voting.

“While noncitizen voting is currently prohibited, this amendment enshrines these protections into our constitution,” the Oostburg Republican says. “By voting ‘yes,’ we safeguard the integrity of Wisconsin’s elections, ensuring that only citizens with a stake in our state’s future can vote.”

LeMahieu says a “yes” vote will support clear, consistent voter eligibility, protect against future challenges, and keep Wisconsin elections secure and fair.  “Make sure to have your voice heard on November 5 and protect the integrity of Wisconsin’s elections,” LeMahieu says.
