This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol are about energy rebates and the primary election. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:
— In this week’s , state Sen. Cory Tomczyk urges Wisconsinites to support the constitutional amendments on Tuesday’s ballot.
The Mosinee Republican explains that the two questions that will appear on the primary election ballot pertain whether the Legislature should get a say in how federal funds sent to the state are allocated. Those decisions are currently in the hands of the governor.
“A single person with that much power is dangerous no matter who is in charge,” he says.
Wisconsinites will be invited either vote ‘yes’ to amend the state Constitution to grant the Legislature a say, or vote ‘no’ to have the governor retain the ability to make those decisions.
“A yes vote on the questions would ensure more transparency and accountability in the spending of your tax dollars, ensuring that you have a say in the process, through your elected legislators,” Tomczyk says.
— In this week’s , Gov. Tony Evers celebrates the launch of the Federal Home Energy Rebate Program.
The program is aimed at lowering costs and increasing energy efficiency, in part by making it more affordable to install cost-saving measures. Wisconsin is the first state in the nation to put the program in motion, according to the Democratic governor.
“Building a brighter, stronger, clean energy future starts right at home, and I look forward to seeing how these programs will lighten costs for folks and families across the state,” he says.
The program will save Wisconsinites up to $1 billion a year in energy costs while also supporting almost 50,000 jobs, according to Evers.
“This is proof that we don’t have to choose between protecting the environment and economic development and creating jobs—we can and we’re doing both,” Evers says.
