This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol promote the Wisconsin State Fair and some items on the ballot. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:
— In this week’s , Gov. Tony Evers celebrates the start of the Wisconsin State Fair.
The Dem governor proclaimed Aug. 1-11 as Wisconsin State Fair Days. This proclamation takes place each year to recognize the beginning of the State Fair.
“For generations, the Wisconsin State Fair has showcased Wisconsin agriculture, industry and all that makes our state the great place it is to live, work and play,” Evers says.
The 2024 State Fair will be the 173rd in the state’s history. The fair has livestock shows, live music and food, among other attractions.
“This year is extra special because we’re celebrating 100 years of one of my favorite State Fair traditions: the world-famous Original Cream Puff,” he says.
In honor of this, he also declared Aug. 10 Cream Puff Day in Wisconsin.
— In this week’s , Sen. Rachael Cabral-Guevara advocates a “yes” vote on the constitutional questions on the Aug. 13 ballot.
The questions regard whether the Legislature or the governor should be able to allocate federal funds, according to the Appleton Republican.
“On August 13th, Wisconsinites face a choice: should money that comes into this state be efficiently spent by the folks who are closest to them, or should it all be distributed by one person?” Cabral-Guevara asks.
The Wisconsin Legislature gave up the power of allocation almost 100 years ago due to the slow speed of communication, which is a problem Cabral-Guevara argues is solved by modern technology. “A ‘yes’ vote would result in efficient and accountable spending of those funds, and return to the Legislature its role in the oversight of them,” she says.
