This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol discuss voting and public safety. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:
— In this week’s , Gov. Tony Evers encourages Wisconsinites to vote.
“Voting is the single most powerful tool we have in our democracy, and it’s essential that each and every eligible voter makes a plan to vote this year,” the Dem governor says.
Evers notes voters can register at their polling location with proof of residence or a photo ID and request absentee ballots until Oct. 31st. He says voters also have the option to take part in in-person absentee voting, which began this week.
“Because of fair maps I signed into law, Wisconsinites will no longer be voting under some of the most gerrymandered legislative maps in America. Our maps are fair, responsive and reflect the will of the people,” Evers says.
— In this week’s , Sen. Rob Hutton touts GOP legislative efforts to boost public safety.
“Leaders and elected officials need to remember if we want our communities to thrive, crime cannot be tolerated,” the Brookfield Republican says. “Until we are willing to tackle this challenge, I fear we will continue to see a diminished standard of living in many of our vulnerable neighborhoods.”
Hutton says Republicans passed legislation to help police recruit and retain officers and “slow the revolving door of the justice system.” He says while Evers vetoed them, voters recently approved a ballot measure allowing judges to impose tougher bail.
“We will revisit this agenda in the next session and push for reforms for our juvenile justice system so that violent youth who repeatedly victimize others are held accountable.”
