This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol discuss Veterans Day and new leadership in the State Senate. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:
— In this week’s , Gov. Tony Evers celebrates Veterans Day, which took place Monday.
The Dem governor touts his administration’s efforts to support the state’s more than 300,000 veterans. He notes investments in veteran mental health initiatives, a rental assistance program for homeless veterans, and resources for the Veterans Outreach and Recovery Program and Hire Heroes Program.
“Making sure veterans have access to job training and education to find family-supporting jobs has to be a top priority, and I’m proud that Wisconsin’s workforce development services rank fourth in the country for successfully helping veterans find employment,” Evers says.
Evers says his administration is committed to continuing to support veterans and their families.
“It’s the least we can do to show our appreciation for their selfless service and immense sacrifices. So on behalf of our entire state, thank you for your service, and happy Veterans Day, Wisconsin,” he says.
— In this week’s , Sen. Mary Felzkowski introduces herself as the new Senate president.
Felzkowski, R-Tomahawk, was elected to replace Sen. Chris Kapenga, R-Pewaukee, in the role.
“The senators in our caucus represent 18 vastly different areas of the state, but we all share some common goals, like returning your surplus tax dollars, shrinking the size of government, and creating an economy that benefits all Wisconsin families,” Felzkowski says.
Felzkowski says Evers “vetoed tax cut after tax cut, choosing to keep your hard-earned dollars in Madison,” during the previous legislative session. “Make sure you let him know that it won’t fly this session and tell him you want your money back. We’ll take care of the rest,” she says in reference to an estimated $3.5 billion surplus.
