Weekly Radio Addresses discuss Pride, Chippewa Valley

Weekly Addresses

This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol are about Pride Month and supporting the Chippewa Valley.. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:

— Gov. Tony Evers in this week’s reaffirmed his vow to veto any legislation that makes Wisconsin a less safe, inclusive and welcoming place for members of the LGBTQ community.

Evers celebrated Pride Month. He noted he has raised the Pride Flag above the state Capitol for six straight years, has traveled the state visiting LGBTQ-owned businesses and has hosted the first Pride Month reception at the executive residence.

Evers also warned there continues to be harmful anti-LGBTQ rhetoric across the country and in Wisconsin, which “harms our kids, emboldens hate and violence, and threatens the safety, security, and dignity of LGBTQ people.”

“No matter who you are, or what you believe, who you love, or how you express your truest, most authentic self, you are family here,” Evers says. “You belong here. You are welcome home here. And even though Pride Month is coming to an end, this month and every month, I will never stop fighting to protect LGBTQ Wisconsinites with every tool and every power that I have.”

— In this week’s , state Sen. Jesse James touts progress on a new science building at UW-Eau Claire, saying it will provide a boost for the workforce in the Chippewa Valley.

The Altoona Republican says the current science building on the campus is “decrepit, outdated and too small.”

James says he authored a budget motion in 2019 to get the funding rolling for a new building, while the 2023-25 budget included $231 million needed to finish the second phase. He also touts the $13 million that the Mayo Clinic is putting toward the cost,

“I’m proud of the Legislature for investing in this project, because it shows how evident it is that west-central Wisconsin matters and has promise,” James says. “We look forward to the advances that come from this new space for students to learn, and to support the Chippewa Valley in helping to move Wisconsin forward.”
