Weekly Radio Addresses discuss politics, mental health

This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol discuss state politics and mental health. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:

— In this week’s GOP , Senate Majority Leader Devin LaMahieu says Gov. Tony Evers “plays politics” while Republicans are working to help Wisconsinites.

The Oostburg Republican called on Evers to work with the Legislature to release $140 million in funds to combat PFAS contamination and provide emergency relief to the Chippewa Valley, which is currently facing unexpected hospital closures.

“Most of these bills were signed into law, but many of them were vetoed by a governor who is more focused on politics than good policy,” he says.

While the allocated funds were passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature, Evers’ veto has “unilaterally stopped” the funds from getting to the communities that need it, he says.

“While Governor Evers plays politics, the Legislature will continue to do the right thing on behalf of the people of Wisconsin,” he says.

— In this week’s Democratic , Gov. Tony Evers highlights Mental Health Awareness Month.

Evers encourages people to have “open and honest” conversations about mental health and tours his administration’s work to make mental health care more accessible.

“I was proud to sign a budget that made key investments in addressing our state’s mental health crisis,” he says.

The budget included $30 million for school-based mental health services, $10 million to establish two crisis urgent care and observation centers and $200,000 for DATCP’s farmer mental health assistance program, he says.

“Remember folks, you are not alone, and help and hope are always available,” he says. “May is a great reminder to take good care of ourselves and each other and let’s work together to reduce the stigma and build a healthier state for everyone.”
