Weekly Radio Addresses discuss PFAS, health care, and education

Weekly Addresses

This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin lawmakers….. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:

— In this week’s Democratic , Gov. Tony Evers urges Republicans to release funds to fight PFAS statewide and stabilize health care access in western Wisconsin.

Evers urges Republicans to “expeditiously” release $140 million in already approved funds, with $125 million allocated to fight PFAS and $15 million for health care in Western Wisconsin after HSHS and Prevea Health closed several locations in the region.

“Instead of putting this funding to use for the people of the state, the Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee has let these investments sit in Madison unspent,” he says. “Obviously, that’s breathtaking. These issues get worse and more expensive with each day of delay.”

He says Wisconsinites should not have to wait any longer for these funds to be released.

“It’s time for Republicans to stop obstructing and playing politics and get to work addressing the real and pressing needs facing our state,” he says. “It’s about doing the right thing for our kids, our state, and our communities. Simple as that.”

— In this week’s GOP , Sen. Rachael Cabral-Guevara touts Republicans’ efforts to ensure parents have the tools they need to help their children be successful in school.

“For our kids in elementary, middle and high school, we passed the largest expansion of the school choice program in state history, providing over $280 million in new resources to choice and charter schools statewide,” the Appleton Republican says. “This historic investment will allow up to 20,000 additional students to benefit from attending the school of their choice.”

As for families saving up for college, she says, Act 148 makes EdVest account contributions up to $5,000 tax deductible. Steps were also taken to ensure EdVest accounts can be used for apprenticeships and loan repayments.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced AB 793, which became Act 148.

“As our education system evolves, we need to make sure the government is not standing in the way of you accessing your money,” she says. “We’ve made progress, but there’s still more work to do. I will continue the fight to support families and give our kids the education they deserve.”
