Weekly Radio Addresses discuss manufacturing, taxes

Weekly Addresses

This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol highlight the topics of manufacturing and taxes. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:

— In this week’s , Gov. Tony Evers wishes Wisconsinites a happy Manufacturing Month.

The Dem governor says he declared 2024 the Year of the Worker “because it’s well past time we got to work addressing our state’s longstanding workforce challenges—including our need to recruit and retain talented workers.”

Evers says he’s been glad to support programs and initiatives, like the Workforce Innovation Grant Program, to help people gain the skills they need for careers in industries such as the manufacturing sector.

“So, as we celebrate Manufacturing Month and our state’s proud manufacturing history, I look forward to continuing our support for this critical industry and the workers who power it,” he says.

— In this week’s , Sen. Rachael Cabral-Guevara says Republicans will reintroduce a retirement income tax cut proposal Evers vetoed last session.

“We introduced that bill because our retired parents and grandparents deserve to keep the money they’ve put away throughout their career,” the Appleton Republican says. “Punishing them for staying near their family in Wisconsin once they retire isn’t the right way to treat our seniors.”

Cabral-Guevara says changes have been made to gain bipartisan support, including capping the exemption at $125,000 for couples filing jointly.  “As I’ve said repeatedly in the past, I trust Wisconsinites to spend their money more wisely than the government. It’s time Wisconsin returns your money back to you,” she says.
