Weekly Radio Addresses discuss health care, state budget

Weekly Addresses

This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol are about health care and the state budget. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:

— In this week’s , Gov. Tony Evers highlights his plans to improve health care statewide.

The Dem governor touts the proposals outlined in his 2025-27 budget plan to “help improve access to quality, affordable health care coverage, lower costs on health care and medication, and ensure Wisconsinites can get care quicker and closer to home.”

Evers says he’s dedicated to making new hospital investments to improve access to health care in rural communities and is proposing new strategies to improve wait times for scheduling appointments. His plan would also set price ceilings on prescription medications, including insulin, by cracking down on price gouging and health insurance companies.

“I’ve always believed that health care should not be a privilege only afforded to the healthy and wealthy — Wisconsinites should be able to get the health care you need when you need it,” he says.

— In this week’s , Sen. Rob Hutton shares an acronym, “T.H.E.S.E.” He says that reflects priorities for the state budget he heard about at a Joint Finance Committee hearing in West Allis.

The Brookfield Republican says the “T” stands for “our state’s tax structure that needs to be reformed to reduce the tax burden,” “H” is for “the need for significant health care reform,” “E” is for “the need for Wisconsin to continue to offer a strong and a diverse education opportunity, “S” is for “safe communities, schools, businesses and places of worship,” and “E” is for “growing Wisconsin’s economy and encouraging the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders.” “We heard from some of our young entrepreneurs at State Fair Park. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know some of those students in the robotics teams and my Senate district, and I’m always impressed with their competitive spirit, innovation and leadership abilities,” Hutton says. “That is why I’m working on legislation to make it free for high school students to register a business with the state.”
