This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol are about the environment and supporting mothers. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:
— In this week’s , Gov. Tony Evers honors Earth Week, touting his environmental efforts.
The Dem guv calls on Wisconsinites to celebrate Earth Week by taking small steps like conserving water and reducing waste to help protect and conserve Wisconsin’s natural resources.
“I encourage you to join me in celebrating Earth Week this week — pick up trash in your local neighborhood or park, fix a leak at home, weatherize your windows, cut down on food waste, plant a native plant or tree, recycle your old electronics,” he says.
He touts his efforts while in office to plant more trees, invest in protecting land and water resources and expand Wisconsin’s clean energy economy. In 2025, the “Year of the Kid,” Evers says he’s especially focused on making sure “we can leave our kids and grandkids with a better world than the one we inherited.”
— In this week’s , Sen. Jesse James celebrates the Senate passage of his bill to extend postpartum Medicaid coverage for new moms from 60 days to 12 months.
The bill also passed in the Senate last session, but did not receive a vote in the Assembly amid opposition from Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester.
James, R-Thorp, calls the 60-day coverage threshold “unacceptable.”
“Postpartum recovery doesn’t follow a deadline,” James says. “Some of the most serious health risks like postpartum depression, anxiety, high blood pressure and heart complications arise well into the first year — all while trying to care for a newborn. Bringing a child into the world is life-changing, physically, emotionally, and mentally. That’s why this bill matters.”
He said it’s the Assembly’s turn to pass the bill and get it to Gov. Tony Evers’ desk. “Because when it comes to protecting moms and families, there’s no room for politics,” James says.
