This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin Capitol are about broadband access and higher education. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:
— In this week’s Dem radio address, Gov. Tony Evers touts efforts to expand high-speed internet access across the state.
Evers highlights the efforts made since 2019 to provide high-speed internet to Wisconsinites, including $340 million to ensure hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses have reliable, high-speed internet. The Dem guv had proposed an investment in the state budget seeking to expand high-speed internet access in the state.
“Republicans rejected my plan to invest $750 million into expanding access to high-speed internet,” he says, “and provided zero new state dollars to get every home and business in Wisconsin connected to high-speed internet.”

— In this week’s Republican radio address, Sen. Rob Hutton argues that bold reform is needed in higher education.
The UW System’s biggest challenge is declining enrollment, and many of the 26 campuses are facing budget shortfalls because of it, the Brookfield Republican says. Hutton argues that change is needed in the higher education system to rectify that problem.
“We need a strong UW System to help our students prepare for the careers of the future,” he says. “That need will only grow over time.”
The Senate Committee on Universities and Revenue this week held a confirmation hearing on Evers’ appointees to the UW System Board of Regents.
