This week’s Weekly Radio Addresses from Wisconsin’s Capitol offer a review of 2024 and a tax cut proposals. These addresses are available for Wisconsin broadcasters to use as they see fit. Here are the summaries from WisPolitics:
— In this week’s Dem radio address, Gov. Tony Evers highlighted his accomplishments from 2024.
Evers declared 2024 the Year of the Worker in Wisconsin and emphasized progress made on workforce and the economy — including roads, housing, infrastructure and healthcare.
“Workforce development is about making sure folks have the affordable housing they need close to their jobs and our communities,” Evers said.
Evers further described the increase in funding to affordable housing, healthcare expansion and thousands of miles of repaired roads and bridges.
Evers added that he signed 186 bills into law in 2024.
“Boy, it was a busy year, folks! And we’re not slowing down in 2025,” Evers concluded. “So happy New Year, and let’s get to work!”
— In this week’s GOP radio address, Sen. Cory Tomczyk says he plans to encourage tax cut bills this session.
“With over $4 billion in the bank, I believe one of our biggest priorities would be to return those tax dollars back to those who paid them –YOU – the taxpayers of Wisconsin,” the Mosinee Republican says.
Tomczyk said that Gov. Tony Evers has vetoed tax cut bills in past sessions, and he wants to pass another tax cut and urges Evers to support it.
Additionally, Tomczyk plans to bring a set of bills that would prevent municipalities from banning vehicles or devices based on their power source so that cities cannot prohibit a gas lawn mower, for example. “I believe that all Wisconsinites should be able to drive whatever car they want and use whatever tools they want, regardless of what powers them,” Tomczyk said.
