Meteorologist Emily Merz will join its First Alert Weather team at WSAW-TV NewsChannel 7 in Wausau.
Beginning Sept. 14, Merz will work Monday through Friday delivering critical afternoon and evening forecasts across the station’s multiple platforms.
WSAW-TV said Merz is known for her engaging on-air presence and ability to break down complex meteorological data. “Merz brings energy and a deep commitment to public safety, helping viewers plan their days and stay ahead of changing conditions,” read a statement from the station.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Emily to our team. She is committed to our First Alert philosophy and understands that it means we’re here to keep our community safe and we’re here to help viewers make better decisions about their day by sharing information they can trust and act on,” said Jessica Laszewski, Vice President and General Manager, WSAW/WZAW-TV.
Merz joins a veteran First Alert Weather team that includes Meteorologists Chad Franzen, Jeremy Tabin and Spencer Furman.
“Emily is a fantastic addition to our newsroom,” said Jacob Wilson, News Director, WSAW/WZAW-TV. “Her experience in tracking Wisconsin’s unpredictable weather, combined with her storytelling skills and natural connection with viewers, will elevate our First Alert coverage. We are excited to have her in the newsroom and out in the community.”
Merz joins WSAW from sister station WBAY-TV in Green Bay where she served as a weekend morning meteorologist since January 2025. While there, she helped keep viewers safe during March’s historic blizzard. She also recently covered the destructive Menasha tornado, providing numerous live reports from the field.
“It feels right to continue my journey within the Gray family,” said Merz. “Keeping people safe and informed during severe weather of all kinds is my passion. I love the Midwest. I love Wisconsin and I’m thrilled to make Wausau my home.”
Merz is a native of Minnesota who graduated from Mississippi State University in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Geoscience, concentrating in Broadcast Meteorology, and a minor in Communication. She began her career at sister station KEYC-TV in Mankato, Minnesota, before moving to Green Bay to join WBAY.
