A veteran journalist with a long career at WISN-TV in Milwaukee has died.

Mike Anderson started at WISN-TV in 1981 and retired in 2017.

“Mike Anderson was a transformative figure in the history of television news in Milwaukee,” WISN-TV News Director Ben Hart wrote. “In his storied career, he broke class and color barriers and set the tone for what professionalism looks like. His legacy is clear. Mike had a commitment to fairness, straightforward reporting and relentless pursuit of the truth.”

While the WBA’s scholarships continue to support students looking to start a career in broadcasting, one of our scholarships is changing to a grant aimed at helping young broadcasters who might want help paying down their student debt.

The Results Broadcasting Scholarship is now the Results Broadcasting Education Debt Assistance Grant.

Grant originators Bruce and Don Grassman are interested in helping those who have committed themselves to a career in broadcasting by providing $1,000 in student debt relief.

We’re accepting applications now through Feb. 28 and will recognize the recipient at the WBA Summer Conference.

FOX 6 (WITI-TV) in Milwaukee has named Jim Wilson the station’s news director.

Wilson was previously the Assistant News Director at the station, a position he has held since 2017. He will now oversee all aspects of newsroom operations.

A draft bill that would establish statewide rules for how police use body cameras and handle requests for access to videos has been approved by a Legislative Study Committee that’s been working on the topic since this summer.

Reporter/anchor Mary Jo Ola is returning to Wisconsin after working at WATN/WLMT in Memphis.
Ola said via social media that she’s taken a position as a reporter at WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee. It’s her last week in Memphis.
