WBA Young Professionals Present:
How the State Capitol Works
3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Get an inside look at how the State Capitol works. This session held at the Wisconsin State Capitol is aimed at young professionals. It will be led by Michelle Kussow who is a 25 year veteran of the Capitol. She will discuss the interaction between the executive and legislative branches in state government. With a new Democratic Governor and majority Republican control of the State Assembly and Senate, the legislative process will be very challenging for both parties. Michelle will walk through the process by which an idea becomes a bill and how the bill eventually could become law. Michelle will talk about the importance of citizen participation and how organizations like the WBA can be successful in supporting their industry. She will review the work of the Personal Property Tax Coalition she developed and its success in repealing a portion of the tax in Wisconsin. The event includes a tour of the Capitol and a visit with veteran Capitol reporter Jessica Arp from WISC-TV/News3. Other guests have also been invited to speak. Attendees are strongly encouraged to join broadcasters as observers when they visit lawmakers during WBA State Legislative Day on Jan. 30.
5 – 7 p.m.
After the sessions enjoy getting social with your fellow broadcast professionals. Join us upstairs at The Coopers Tavern located at 20 W. Mifflin St., Madison.
