WLUK-TV, in Green Bay, WI is seeking a Broadcast Engineer! This individual will be responsible for installing and maintaining video, audio, and other equipment associated with television broadcasting. This includes server-based record and play-out systems, non-linear editors, production switchers, routing switchers, MPEG encoders, decoders, automation, news room computer systems, data networks, and broadcast transmission equipment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide the engineering design and assist with the building and installation of electronic systems/equipment as assigned
  • Maintain and repair transmitters (AM, FM, TV, Microwave, Fiber, satellite, etc.), receivers, cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, video tape systems, routers, automation/editing systems, intercoms, two-way radios, monitors and display systems
  • Provide budget information to support the implementation of new systems
  • Provide technical support to operational users
  • Consult and communicate with engineering management and other engineers on technical issues as required
  • Provide specific engineering signal flow diagrams for CAD documentation on all work performed on technical systems
  • Perform all technical work to engineering standards and practices
  • Other duties may be assigned

Other Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A self-starter
  • The ability to work efficiently without direct supervision
  • Be able to work effectively with other departments receiving and communicating instructions via telephone or in person
  • Be able to read and understand technical materials
  • Able to set priorities under pressure of deadlines
  • Able to concentrate for long periods of time
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Must be flexible to accommodate shift changes, including extended hours, weekends, and evenings
  • Associate’s degree (AA) in electronics preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) years of broadcast experience
  • Working knowledge of broadcast station operations

Assistant Chief Engineer

WISN-TV has an opening for an Assistant Chief Engineer. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to organize, plan, manage, document and execute assignments within a demanding live broadcast environment. This person is responsible for the management of the equipment and computer systems that provides the content of our broadcast on-air program streams. Candidate will be responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, and assuring quality control of on air product. This position involves supervisory roles while reporting directly to the Director of Engineering.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage and oversee broadcast operations and the maintenance engineers, which include Master Control Operators, Control Room Operators, Maintenance Engineers and other technical staff.
  • Effectively manage and motivate the department personnel to attain maximum focus to ensure smooth and efficient operations to produce the highest level of quality to the viewer.
  • Deploy and train personnel in new and existing equipment/technology/procedures including the station’s broadcast automation system, live newscast production, and digital workflows.
  • Exhibit a good working knowledge of television maintenance and IT systems, as well as FCC requirements and licensing.
  • Document and maintain engineering and operational policies and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple priorities and follow through until successful resolution.
  • Requires excellent judgment and ability to effectively handle complex issues under pressure or during emergency situations.
  • Manage the building and its related systems such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical system.

Experience Requirements: 

  • Five years of experience in Television Broadcast Operations/Maintenance.
  • Five years of experience with computer networking, VMWare, and computer broadcast production systems.
  • Three years of managerial or supervisory experience.

Qualifications Requirements: Must have a solid background in broadcast television systems, computers, computer systems, and networking, Attention to details is imperative. Ability to work with budgets. Maintaining and Planning is a plus.

Education: College Degree or related military training SBE certifications are preferred. Networking and VMWare certifications a preferred.
