News 3 Now/Channel , Southern Wisconsin’s number one station and digital source for news, is looking for an enthusiastic, organized individual to join our newsroom team. We’re looking for someone who lives for logistics, dives into digital and is passionate about producing the most relevant stories for our audience. Here’s some of what you would be looking forward to:

  • Creating relevant content, including web, mobile and social posts that create a deep and rich journalism experience for our audience.
  • Winning and working fast on breaking news by monitoring scanners and social platforms, making beat calls, contacting sources and dispatching crews quickly and efficiently
  • Curating and troubleshooting our award-winning website by coordinating our relationship with our CMS provider, problem-solving when it comes to technical issues, and working across multiple departments to accomplish digital goals
  • Being the most “in-the-know” person on daily news events in the newsroom—and using that overview to collaborate with managers and staff to ensure our coverage of the most relevant news in the market
  • Engaging with a number of analytics and audience tools to help us listen to and understand our audience.

Some requirements we’re looking for:

  • BA/BS in journalism or related field with online publishing or communications experience
  • Previous experience in newsroom setting, knowledge of journalistic news standards
  • Experience writing for print using AP style
  • Experience with HTML and content management systems
  • Experience managing social media accounts, producing video and audio for the web using desktop video software
  • Familiarity with word processing software and image editing software such as PhotoShop.

Key Activities

  • Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration
  • Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.
  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast.
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multi media stories.
  • Report, write, capture quality visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels.


Education & Experience/Certifications

  • Bachelors degree in broadcast journalism or related degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience

Skills & Abilities

  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
