The WBA ’s 2012 Call on Congress is scheduled for March 13 & 14 (Tuesday & Wednesday). This annual trip provides an important opportunity for broadcasters and lawmakers to meet in both business and informal settings. WBA members who have attended Washington trips in the past say the experience has been interesting and valuable.  NOTE: For the 2012 DC Trip (held in conjunction with NAB’s Leadership), the House will not be in Session. Therefore, we will try to schedule meetings with our Senators, as well as Chiefs of Staff on the House side. From the November Board minutes:

*DC Trip 2012: NAB President & CEO Gordon Smith joined us via conference call to share that for NAB’s 2012 Leadership (which leads into the WBA DC Trip), NAB had just learned that the House will not be in Session. Senator Smith strongly urged us to keep the WBA’s DC Trip “as is” as: 1). Current issues suggest that we focus more on the Senate at this time; 2). We can still meet with House Chiefs of Staff (where much of the work is done and the majority of bills written); and 3). The Tuesday night Reception at the Newseum is sure to be a big draw for staffers (we have the run of the place that night). The consensus of the Board was to keep the WBA DC Trip as is for 2012.

IMPORTANT – Due to the hotel reservation deadline,
we need your response no later than FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 2012!

The WBA Winter Conference, combined with the WBA’s first annual state-legislative Day took place in 2008. We knew that it would take awhile to establish the new format of the event, our Calls at...

Chair’s Column

And so I’ve reached the final curtain…I mean column, and this is where I’m supposed to say that I made it through finding 12 topics for the year to write about in this space. Are you kidding? I still have an entire list that I didn’t get to and I simply ran out of months! Seriously, I’m so thankful for the opportunity to have served as your Chairman this past year. Our industry is changing fast and so many new opportunities are arising every day, which makes a one-year term fly by so quickly. One thing I always...
