CURRENT HEADLINES

Educational Support Grant Applications Due

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Foundation Educational Support Grant Program is now accepting applications for 2008 grants with a deadline of Friday, April 12. The Educational Support Grant Program was created in 2000 to award up to $10,000 annually to assist non-profit college and technical school broadcast education programs in acquiring equipment, hardware, software, and/or other teaching materials that are necessary to conduct broadcast education programs and promote careers in broadcasting. The program has generated such good responses in the quality of applications, that in the first seven years, the Foundation Board actually approved $79,795 in grants. For 2007, the WBA Foundation Board approved four grants to Wisconsin universities totaling $10,745.15. For more information, contact the WBA Foundation office at 1-800-236-1922.

The 11th Annual Walker Management Institute, which is scheduled for May 13-15, is now enrolling participants for this year’s Institute. The deadline for registration under a reduced rate of $525 for the 3-day Institute is March 14. Registrants after that date pay the full registration fee of $595. The 2008 Institute features three single day modules: Financial Management for Broadcasters, presented by Tom Walker; Customer Service, presented by UW-Madison School of Business instructor, Bob Shaver; and Managing Organizational Change & Managing Motivation, presented by Buck Joseph, Professor Emeritus, UW-Madison School of Business. The guest speaker for the Wednesday evening all school dinner is Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice, Shirley Abrahamson. The Walker Management Institute is presented over three days at UW Madison School of Business. It has been underwritten by a generous grant from the estate of William R. Walker.
