HIRING SMART FOR BROADCASTERS:
LEGAL ISSUES IN HIRING AND EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES TO PROMOTE
EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AND PREVENT UNLAWFUL DISCRIMINATION
The hiring process begins the employment relationship for both employer and employee and, as a result, is important for setting the relationship’s tone, expectations and success. Successful hiring will ideally establish a long-term and amiable employment relationship built upon satisfied expectations for both employee and employer. Unsuccessful hiring, in contrast, creates negative and unproductive human resources and legal issues for employers. These issues are compounded with the proliferation of social media. Employers now face new opportunities and unique challenges when hiring. This presentation will address many of these issues, including whether, as part of the hiring process, employers should perform on-line background checks to see what potential candidates have been up to on social media sites.
