Chief Engineer

Morgan Murphy Media is seeking an experienced television broadcast engineering professional to manage the successful operation of WISC-TV’s technical and building facilities as our Chief Engineer of Broadcast & IT in beautiful Madison Wisconsin (DMA #80). This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join a thriving, privately held broadcast group with state-of-the-art broadcast and digital facilities. This position will lead a team responsible for the operation of all television, IT, computer, and building management systems. Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate prior results in a broadcast engineering leadership role and will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and detailed working knowledge of IT systems and other technologies of a television station. Specific duties and responsibilities include: • Responsible for managing and participating in the operation of all technical systems, including software, television production systems, television transmitters, building and facilities systems, and IT network systems. • Perform and/or supervise general and preventative maintenance of broadcast, IT, and building facilities equipment. • Responsible for the creation and management of capital, departmental, and operational budgets • Provide strategic planning and input on development of long-range plans for technical system upgrades • Provide guidance and support with the development and implementation of all current and future projects and new business initiatives • Supervise broadcast and IT staff • Provide leadership and guidance to Master Control operators • Shall participate in broadcast, production and IT new technology forums and report relevant recommendations to senior leadership • Be available for on-call emergencies for technical operations and transmitter repairs when necessary We are recruiting someone with the following credentials: • At least 5-years of experience involved in television broadcast engineering and operations. • Degree in Engineering, Electronics Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience • Working knowledge of television and digital studio broadcast and production systems including: o Video server technology o Digital signal routing and switching o Digital encoding technologies o Traffic systems o Audio encoding o Routing and storage o Television editing systems • Thorough knowledge and experience with television transmission, microwave, and remote control systems • Knowledge of FCC license and reporting requirements • Strong computer skills with experience in designing, installing, and maintaining a multi-user Windows-based computer network system • Effective supervisory skills with the ability to train and develop future leaders • Outstanding communication skills.

WAOW-TV is seeking applicants for a Director position. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, have multi-tasking abilities, and excellent organizational skills. Additionally, the candidate must be eager to learn and be self-motivated. Responsibilities include technical directing newscasts as well as operating character generators, audio boards and robotic cameras. Basic understanding of Newsroom Control systems is a plus, but not required. The candidate will need to possess the necessary technical skills to interface with computer systems running a variety of operating systems as well as the ability to learn new systems. Other aspects of the job include Master Control duties and tasks, such as show preparation and linear feed recording. The successful candidate will have excellent computer skills and people skills. Previous experience in Television production is desired. Variable hours and days should be expected including morning, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Training is available and likely necessary for an applicant with the right aptitude and technical skills.
